The name International Christian Fellowship Ministries (ICFM) has been modified to Christ Jubilee International Ministries (CJIM). Let me explain the significance of “Christ Jubilee”.

In Luke 4:19-20, Jesus was in the town of his childhood, Nazareth, and went to the synagogue as was His custom. The leader asked him to be the reader. Jesus took the scroll of the prophet Isaiah, and read Isaiah 61:1-2 (I’m adding Verse 3):

“1The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; 2To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn; 3To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.”

After reading, Jesus personalized the prophecy by concluding in Luke 4:21: “Today is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.” Here, Jesus announced that he was the long-awaited Messiah, the Anointed One, whose mission had long ago been declared by Isaiah to bring an Eternal Jubilee: “To proclaim freedom to the oppressed, release to the captives, recovery of sight to the blind, bring beauty for ashes, oil of joy for mourning, and the garment of praise for heaviness”. Such was the good news to be experienced by all in the year of the Lord’s favor – The Jubilee. This announcement by Jesus of the jubilee aroused boundless joy and hope to many who heard him; and the prophecy of Isaiah with which Jesus inaugurated his own ministry, is key to the reason and purpose of the Church of Jesus Christ even today.

Note: Jesus began his ministry with a clear reference to the year of jubilee. He spoke of freedom to the prisoners and releasing the oppressed and proclaiming the year of the Lord’s favor. After proclaiming it he went on to bring deliverance from sin, sickness and Satan to multitudes of those who were bound and afflicted. All this culminated with his own deliverance from the chains of death, and fifty days later the deliverance of his followers from all fear on the glorious day of Pentecost. They in turn proclaimed deliverance and release to captives wherever they went.

The Jubilee that Christ brings – Christ Jubilee – is a season or an occasion of joyful celebration. It is an eternal season of remission of sins and universal pardon. Unlike in Leviticus 25, where a Jubilee year occurs every fifty years, in which slaves and prisoners would be freed, lands returned to former owners, debts would be forgiven and the mercies of God would be particularly manifested, Christ’s Jubilee is celebrated forever since it is good news for the poor, healing for the sick, and deliverance for those oppressed by sin. Christ’s Jubilee is the whole gospel.
